Our Favorite Fall Picture Books

Homeschool

Picture books are one of my favorite ways to ring in a new season. With pumpkins, apples and falling leaves, these are guaranteed to bring out all the cozy feelings.

There’s a wide age range between my kids so I like to pick books that the whole family can enjoy. Focusing on great artwork and clever writing to keep everyone engaged. Besides, you’re never really too old to enjoy a good picture book.

I’ve linked everything on Amazon but also highly recommend trying your library or a used bookstore like Thrift Books! Spend $30 and get a free book HERE.

So gather your fuzziest blanket and a warm cup of something sweet and enjoy these fall picture books!

Fall Picture Books- Ox Cart Man

Ox Cart Man

An excellent story of sewing, reaping, patience and gratitude. With the most beautiful artwork! It doesn’t get better than Barbara Cooney!

Too Many Pumpkins

A funny and sweet book about, well, too many pumpkins! This one is sure to get a laugh out of the whole family.

Pumpkin Jack

An endearing story. I love how full circle it is and reminds me of my own little tender hearted boys!

Johnny Appleseed

There are many versions of this story but I love the artwork in this one and how clever and poetic it is. A great lesson in being a good steward and tending faithfully what God has given you!

Bear Has a Story to Tell

A sweet story of true friendship.

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World

Such a clever read with beautiful artwork! Explore the world and meet all sorts of neat people and creatures while baking your apple pie.

Autumn Story

Brambly Hedge is up there with my favorite kids books of all time. The artwork is outstanding (have I said that enough yet??) We will spend forever playing “spot it” with this one! You can get just Autumn Story but I highly recommend going ahead and getting the whole collection!

County Fair

Big Laura Ingalls Wilder fans over here 👋🏻 This story is adapted from her chapter book Farmer Boy and my kids loved getting to see all the illustrations to one of their favorite read-alouds!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

My kids had lots of “Hey that’s what’s happening right now!” moments while reading this one. A very relatable and fun book to read as the seasons change.

Sharing the Bread

A great story about the value of hard work, family tradition and thankfulness!

Fletcher and the Falling Leaves

Sweet Fletcher loves what he loves and doesn’t want to let it go. This ones a best seller for a reason. It’s a great story about finding beauty in all seasons!

I know there are about a million more fall picture books out there but I hope you’ll enjoy these! I’m sure they’ll become classics in your home like they are in mine!
