When thinking of casting a vision for my life, the first place I go is Philippians 4:8.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.
The Apostle Paul knew that life-changing power begins in the mind. Where you set your gaze determines the path you take. And with an influx of input through ever-growing media outlets, we need now, more than ever, to guard our minds and intentionally cast a vision for our lives if we are to flourish in a fallen world.
The more we meditate on what is true, right, pure, and lovely, the more we grow in the ability to create those elements in our homes.
Vision casting is taking a 30,000 foot view of what you want your life to look like. Through vision casting, we’re going to look at what drives your heart and find creative ways to do more of it.
What if your life was one giant mural? All the highs and lows, hopes and dreams, formed and painted into one masterpiece. What would you want it to look like?
What do you want the overarching themes to be? How do you want people to feel when they think of you? What do you want to accomplish in your life, home, and work?
A beautiful life doesn’t just happen to you; you choose it. Now I know there are certain circumstances out of your control. But we are focusing on what we can do. God designed you with a unique purpose. What brings you joy and fulfillment will be dull to someone else.
But there is freedom, confidence, and contentment when we start living out the God-given purposes of our own lives instead of comparing them to someone else’s.
Start by asking yourself these questions and writing them down in a journal. You can edit it later, so don’t worry about it being perfect or polished. Just get what’s in your heart out onto paper.
An example of vision casting from my own life-
I dream of living a life full of rich books, quality time, journaling, and home-cooked meals. I took inventory of what was taking up most of my time, the obvious answer was the tv. So we got rid of two of our TVs and now have only one that stays in a family room to encourage togetherness even when having screen time. To remind myself of this big-picture goal I have a picture of my family and books on my vision board.

Where do I start?
I like to have a Pinterest board or saved folder on IG dedicated to things that inspire me. While this can be a catch-all for pretty things, to get the most out of your vision board, curate the space. Only save what makes your heart pitter patter, your eyes water, or you can say YES, that is so me.
What if my vision changes?
It will. Just go ahead and count on that. We are designed as seasonal creatures. So feel free to reevaluate your life and make a new vision board when life changes. Do this once a year or even every six months if you’re moving, changing jobs, having a baby, or are in another season of transition.
What do you do with your vision board after you’re done?
After you’ve answered the vision casting questions and gathered your images, compile them into a folder and upload to canva. Using the free template from below you can save a digital copy of your vision board as a screensaver or background. Or a printed version can go in a planner, on the wall, or wherever it will inspire you the most.

One cannot create what one has not imagined. Cultivating a life of purpose and beauty first requires contemplation and a plan. But the good news? It’s possible.
It’s possible to live the life you dream of. You just need to be able to see it first and believe that it’s yours for the taking. God is too big and loves you too much for you to live a sedentary life. So reach out and take his hand, and he will guard your heart as you seek to live a life worthy of your calling.
You were made for this time, and this place, so let’s make the best of it!
